Brief

POOLgroup turned the BMW Group’s creative concept into reality: BMW’s new iNext concept car was launched in a 777F cargo plane, so the product presentation could fly around the world.

Challenge

A product presentation in an airplane? Of course, that’s anything but easy: the design had to be suitable for when the car was on show and during flight, and strict air freight regulations had to be adhered to at all times. A product presentation that flies around the world naturally required extensive personnel and material logistics.
The presentation at each of the four stops had to be set up and dismantled in a very tight time frame due to flight schedules, airport slots etc.
LED flooring and multiple projections as well as LED ceiling and ribs created an impressive experience. The whole thing had to be built and designed taking into account the airplane’s dimensions, a particular challenge that was mastered brilliantly.

Staging

The shows were produced by two different teams: “Team Independence” were responsible for Munich and San Francisco, while “Team Freedom” looked after New York and Beijing. Each team had a show crew as well as a set-up and dismantling crew.
The planning phase was very labor-intensive, but two weeks before departure, the preliminary set-up, including programming, was complete.

Result

It was a challenging project, but definitely worth it: “There won’t be anything else like it for a while.”
