Jung von Matt – The Bubbleversum
Following on from their “typical German living room” installation, Jung von Matt unveiled the Bubbleversum (Bubbleverse) in their Hamburg offices – an immersive experience that identifies and highlights the echo chambers, or bubbles, that German live in.
Requirements & aim
Jung von Matt no longer wanted to present digital environments as figures or statistics but instead make them immediately recognizable. The Bubbleversum created a physical space in which visitors could experience first-hand how echo chambers operated – from displaying daily social media content to interactive data visualizations.
Staging & services
The POOLcrew assumed total responsibility for technical implementation. Audio, video, LED, IT, projection, spatial sound, and interactive control. The centerpiece was a transparent 3.7-meter dome built by our team, which created a mesmerizing space featuring high-performance projectors and 360° sound. Content was managed using a smartphone and transferred from social media feeds to the installation in real time.
Experience
Visitors dived into individual, filtered bubbles, seeing and hearing what Germans were engaging with at that moment and understanding the mechanisms of digital algorithms. By integrating data analysis, media technology, and spatial staging, the Bubbleversum emerged as an innovative research project and immersive experience.
Result
The Bubbleversum combined creativity, media, and technology in a novel approach. In partnership with the POOLcrew, an installation was created that captivated industry insiders and the wider public alike – standing as a further testament to Jung von Matt’s innovative spirit.
