Vienna Philharmonic – Summer Night Concert, Schönbrunn
The Vienna Philharmonic’s Summer Night Concert is one of the largest classical music events in the world. Each year, thousands of visitors and millions of viewers enjoy a world-class concert performed in the baroque gardens of Schönbrunn Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The event is free to attend and broadcast across the globe.
Requirements & aim
The concert is a musical gift to the public. Its aim is to make the highest level of classical music accessible to as wide an audience as possible – live in person, on television, and via live stream to many countries.
Challenge
Delivering the project within the protected palace gardens presents unique demands. Preservation regulations, the fragile infrastructure, and the site’s historic character call for technical finesse and tailored solutions.
Staging & services
Ganzton Veranstaltungen GmbH and Designbüro Beacon commissioned the project. Since 2020, the POOLcrew has partnered with the Summer Night Concert, bringing their expertise in technical implementation with them: Lighting, rigging & stage automation, media technology & IT as well as technical planning. Together with various partners, they are successfully meeting the ever growing demands on technology, safety, and quality.
Experience
Visitors experience a unique atmosphere: A world-famous orchestra performing in a baroque garden setting, enhanced by cutting-edge lighting and media technology. 2025’s concert, led by conductor Tugan Sokhiev, featured solos from world-renowned tenor Piotr Beczała. For the first time, the Vienna Boys’ Choir were also part of the program – an emotional highlight.
Result
The Summer Night Concert proves that a traditional format can be combined with advanced event technology. As global broadcast event and with free admission on site, it reaches an audience of millions, making classical music accessible to all.
